Hello, my name is Isabella. My birthday is June 15, 2017. I live in the village of Vea, Ghana, where I attend school. Mathematics is my favorite class in school. My teacher says I am the best mathematics student in class. I like to help the other students in my class who struggle with math.

The Context
Isabella’s world.
Isabella lives in Vea, a farming village in Ghana’s Upper East Region — one of the poorest areas in West Africa. She attends school here, walking along unpaved roads through the savanna each morning.
In Vea, families depend on a single rainy season — just three months — to grow an entire year’s food. Only 9% of people in the district live within walking distance of clean water. The groundwater itself is contaminated with fluoride levels above WHO safety limits.
