My name is Richmond, and I live in Vea, Ghana, with my family. My birthday is September 18th. In school, my favorite class is Math, and I love reading. My favorite animal is a duck. When I grow up, I would like to be a police officer.

The Context
Richmond’s world.
Richmond lives in Vea, a farming village in Ghana’s Upper East Region — one of the poorest areas in West Africa. He attends school here, walking along unpaved roads through the savanna each morning.
In Vea, families depend on a single rainy season — just three months — to grow an entire year’s food. Only 9% of people in the district live within walking distance of clean water. The groundwater itself is contaminated with fluoride levels above WHO safety limits.
