My name is Vannecia, and I was born on October 6, 2021. I live in Vea, Ghana, where I go to school. I like to draw, and my favorite subject in school is Creative Arts. When I grow up, I want to be a doctor.

The Context
Vannecia’s world.
Vannecia lives in Vea, a farming village in Ghana’s Upper East Region — one of the poorest areas in West Africa. She attends school here, walking along unpaved roads through the savanna each morning.
In Vea, families depend on a single rainy season — just three months — to grow an entire year’s food. Only 9% of people in the district live within walking distance of clean water. The groundwater itself is contaminated with fluoride levels above WHO safety limits.
