My name is Shadrack and my birthday is April 6, 2020. I live in Ghana with my family. My favorite class at school is Mathematics and my favorite animal is a cow. I love playing hide-and-seek with my friends. When I grow up, I want to be a soldier.

The Context
Shadrack’s world.
Shadrack lives in Vea, a farming village in Ghana’s Upper East Region — one of the poorest areas in West Africa. He attends school here, walking along unpaved roads through the savanna each morning.
In Vea, families depend on a single rainy season — just three months — to grow an entire year’s food. Only 9% of people in the district live within walking distance of clean water. The groundwater itself is contaminated with fluoride levels above WHO safety limits.
