My name is Lydia and my birthday is September 25th. I live in Vea, Ghana where I go to school. I love to draw. I also like to play ampe (a traditional Ghanaian jumping and clapping game) with my friends.

The Context
Lydia’s world.
Lydia lives in Vea, a farming village in Ghana’s Upper East Region — one of the poorest areas in West Africa. She attends school here, walking along unpaved roads through the savanna each morning.
In Vea, families depend on a single rainy season — just three months — to grow an entire year’s food. Only 9% of people in the district live within walking distance of clean water. The groundwater itself is contaminated with fluoride levels above WHO safety limits.
