My name is Axel. My birthday is February 4, 2016. I live in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in the community Land of the Father with my mom and little brother Eduardo. I help take care of my younger brother and everything around the house while my mom works every day.

The Context

Axel’s world.

Axel lives in the rural highlands of Tegucigalpa, Honduras — in the heart of Central America’s Northern Triangle. He walks hours to reach school when the roads are passable.

In rural Honduras, 48% of children are chronically malnourished. Hurricanes have displaced hundreds of thousands. Families here live in one-room adobe homes with corrugated roofing, farming coffee on hillside plots with hand tools.
