My name is Miguel and my birthday is April 14th. I live in Nicaragua with my family. I have a younger brother, Jurlyn. My favorite animal is a leopard. My favorite color is green. Math is my favorite class at school. Outside of school, I like to play soccer and I love to cook.

Miguel lives in Granada, Nicaragua — one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. Behind the painted facades and cobblestone streets, families in the surrounding barrios survive on less than $10 a day.

63% of Nicaraguans live in poverty. In the barrios where Miguel lives, tropical downpours turn roads to mud and make schools unreachable for weeks. 19% of children under five have developmental delays from malnutrition.
