My name is José. My birthday is June 19th. I live in Nicaragua. My favorite animal is a dog. I love the color red. In school, my favorite class is Math. I love to play soccer with my friends.

José’s world.
José lives in Granada, Nicaragua — one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. Behind the painted facades and cobblestone streets, families in the surrounding barrios survive on less than $10 a day.
63% of Nicaraguans live in poverty. In the barrios where José lives, tropical downpours turn roads to mud and make schools unreachable for weeks. 19% of children under five have developmental delays from malnutrition.
