My name is Jerrika and my birthday is November 26th. I live in Nicaragua with family. My favorite color is red. My favorite classes in school are English and PE. Outside of school I love to play soccer and I like to practice speaking English. When I grow up, I want to be a police officer.

The Context
Jerrika’s world.
Jerrika lives in Granada, Nicaragua — one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. Behind the painted facades and cobblestone streets, families in the surrounding barrios survive on less than $10 a day.
63% of Nicaraguans live in poverty. In the barrios where Jerrika lives, tropical downpours turn roads to mud and make schools unreachable for weeks. 19% of children under five have developmental delays from malnutrition.
